My Most Popular Blog Posts of 2010

Lando2011

What’s up world?! It’s been a long time since I’ve written here. I apologize! (And thank you to all of those who’ve emailed me asking me where the heck I was.)

I’m here alright. In fact, I’m writing more than ever. You can catch me on the MyBodyTutor blog where I write at least 3x per week.

I do have lots of interesting posts planned for 2011, so please stay tuned. (If you don’t want to miss any posts subscribe here for free and every time there’s a new post, it’ll automatically be emailed to you.)

2010 was an interesting year.

Our beloved George passed away in March which was so heartbreaking. He was the biggest teddy bear in the world.

I moved – which is always exciting, yet nerve wracking (still in NYC – just moved 14 blocks), and my nephew is getting so big! Ugh, I love him so much.

As far as MBT, this has been another terrific year, thankfully!

More and more people are starting to understand that no matter what diet or exercise plan they follow (even if it’s the “perfect” one) it’s pointless, if they can’t stick to it. Consistency is very hard.

I truly believe (and know!) our proven methods and system can help anyone finally stick to their diet and exercise plan – which is always exciting. Yet on the flip side, it’s also a very daunting thought. (A lot of responsibility comes with believing and knowing that.)

As far as press for MBT, it’s always flattering to be featured on prominent blogs.

MizzFit reviewed our service and wrote a glowing review. You can check that out by clicking here.

#1 NY Times Bestselling author, Gretchen Rubin, of the Happiness Project interviewed me about my thoughts on happiness (a subject I think and write a lot about) on her blog. You can read the interview by clicking here.

AOL.com requested an interview where I share my thoughts on why I started MBT, and why I started exercising at such a young age. You can check that out by clicking here.

And finally, a client, who also happens to be a writer for the Huffington Post, blogged about her experience of meeting me. This was the most interesting write up of MBT to date. Check it out by clicking here.

As far as GuruGilbert, let’s keep the tradition alive, shall we?

As I’ve done for the past 2 years, I compiled a list of the most popular posts of 2010 based on your comments, emails and tweets.

Here we go…

One. Observing what people say and actually do is fascinating. In this post I explore the difference between our revealed and stated preferences.

Two. After seeing the movie, Hurt Locker, I was really inspired and wrote a post. As we grow older, I think it’s very easy to lose sight of what we really love.

Three. Dating and relationships are something I love thinking about. In this post, I wrote about the paradox of dating very successful people.

Four. Self-made people are my heroes. People who work for what they have, as opposed to having things handed to them are so much more interesting. In this post, I explore a simple litmus test of how to find out what you’re really passionate about.

Five. Comparing yourself to others can destroy your happiness. Life isn’t a competition. In this post, I explain why relativity can make you very unhappy, if you’re not careful.

Six. In what is one of my most popular posts of all time, I argue that most people do what they do for a living only to be able to signal that they’ve “made it” while deep down they’re extremely unhappy. I plan on writing a lot more about this in 2011.

Oh man. Sad story. Only six posts compared to the 17 of 2009 and the 25 in 2008.

As always, I thank you for reading. I’m very lucky to have such a loyal readership and I appreciate it. If ever you want to get in touch feel free to email me. I love hearing from my readers!

Lots of exciting things to come in 2011. Onwards and upwards!

My Top 17 Posts of 2009!

LandonXmas

I can’t believe it’s the end of 2009 already. Last year, I did a post with all of your favorites so I figured I’d keep the tradition going.

This has been a very thrilling year for many reasons but mostly because of the birth of my nephew, Landon. He is a pure joy.

Professional wise was exciting as well! MBT continues to grow steadily. Although MBT has only been open for 3 years now (not much to compare to) I know if we were able to grow this past year, we’re well poised for future growth.

MBT was also featured on a number of very popular blogs as well as Good Morning America. For not having a PR person and relying strictly on word of mouth, I’m delighted with our progress.

Anyway, here are your favorite posts based on comments, tweets and mostly emails.

Let’s get to it!

1. Creating anticipating will help your happiness and productivity! I explore how creating short term incentives can boost your productivity and happiness.

2. Have too many passions? Some people are lucky and have more than one passion. How do you know which one to go after? I explore that in this post.

3. Inspiration and motivation are very different. I believe if you’re not highly motivated, inspiration might be exactly what you need.

4. Does being vulnerable in a relationship actually lead to the demise of the relationship? We’re intrigued by the unknown. I think there’s big paradox at play here.

5. Get rich quick schemes and lose 30 pounds in 3 day plans don’t exist! If it seems too good to be true, it is! This type of short term thinking really holds you back.

6. I’m a jokester at heart. I love a good prank. I also love some good banter. A great litmus test for how close you are with someone is how much you can tease one another.

7. Do we marry our parents? I’m convinced that who we are attracted to is determined by our relationship with our parents and how they treat us.

8. Do dumb people really exist? I argue that dumb people don’t exist. They are just disguised as people who really don’t care about what they’re doing.

9. I wonder if how much we gamble in love correlates to how much we gamble in life in general.

10. This is one of the most personal posts I’ve written. My mom celebrated her 60th birthday this year. She means the world to me. Between that, and my sister becoming a mom, I’ve become extremely nostalgic.

11. In this post, I explore why I’ll probably never write a bestselling diet book. 10 % of USA Today bestsellers are diet books. People truly enjoy buying diet books because it provides an instant boost of hope. It’s like buying a lottery ticket. We buy the ticket for the feeling we get between when we pay the $1 and when we find out we lost.

12. Is your ego getting in your way? Oh man! How egos get in the way in so many little and big ways. How many times a day are you actually just defending your ego? Think about that for a second.

13. How to get and give advice. What kind of advice do you really want? Ask yourself this before you ask for advice.

14. The worst word in the English language. So many people think the answer to all of their problems is more: more things, more money, more toys, etc. I absolutely disagree! What we really want is closer than we think.

15. Maturity. This is a topic I’ve been thinking a lot about. What makes someone mature? Does having shit happen to you make you more mature?

16. Entrepreneurship is not all it’s cracked up to be. So many people believe starting a business is the solution to their problems. Starting a business should be something you have to do! Not something you want to do.

17. The interior decorator problem. Knowing what you want is the key to getting it. So many people have no idea what they want. I explore ways to help you figure out what it is you might want.

As always, thank you for reading my blog!

I have a lot of fun (and hopefully interesting) posts planned for 2010.

Have a happy, healthy and fit New Year and I’ll see you in 2010 ready to go!

My Top 25 posts of 2008!

First off, I want to thank you for reading my blog! It means the world to me!

I’d write my blog if no one read it; however, getting the emails and comments I get and being nominated as a Top 10 GEN Y blog just makes it that much more rewarding!

2008 was an amazing year for me. I became even more convinced (if that’s possible) that MyBodyTutor has the ability to become a real organization and I invested heavily to make this a reality (you’ll see this reality very soon!).

My clients inspire me every single day and there’s not a day that goes by that I’m not grateful for the privilege they’ve given me of being able to do what I love doing. I’ve met some fascinating and amazing people in 2008 and I can’t wait for 2009!

For 2009, I have some really interesting and though provoking posts (I think) planned. I’m really excited to write these posts and I think you’ll really enjoy them!

If you’re concerned about missing a post feel free to subscribe by email or rss. This way, whenever there’s a new post they’ll be delivered warm and fresh to your inbox or rss reader.

I thought it would be fun to have a post with my top 25 posts (in no particular order) of the year based on emails and comments. Of course, my favorite posts of 2008 are about my clients and how amazing they are.

But this list is comprised of your favorite posts! So here we go:

Business:

1. Shooting a gun is a lot like launching a business. This sort of hit me when I was blasting away at clay in the Dominican Republic.

2. The problem with most commissioned sales people. Unfortunately, I think most commissioned sales people could care less about anything but their commission.

3. The only business where it’s accepted and encouraged to brag about how much money you make. This hit me as I was working on my biz late at night and I realized every other word out of most rappers is about money and how much they make.

4. Is it that hard to wear gloves? Ugh! This still kills me. My local deli guy couldn’t wear gloves when he was making my sandwich!

5. Crawl before you walk. I get so many emails from people asking me for advice about an idea that needs at least $50k. Test first! This actually became an article in a magazine I write for.

6. How can you snakes on a plane your business? When people are used to something and they keep coming back, don’t change anything…or don’t take away anything. Add!

7. Would you buy a brand new car or a brand new website? If you really and truly believe in what you’re doing the choice is simple.

8. The number one quality we should look for in a president! I think this applies to any important position actually.

9. Will you be missed? I want to have an impact on people! There’s nothing more rewarding than helping people realize their goals and dreams! I can’t think of single better way to judge if you’re having an impact on people than this question.

Life: Business is fun to write about but I love writing about other topics that interest me as well. Just like you must have a holistic and well balanced approach when going after your health and fitness goals, life isn’t just about business or fitness.

10. How can you be a DJ in your life? This is one of my favorite posts.

11.How far will you go to make yourself happy? That is the question!

12. Why people become alcoholics? Big difference between wanting to (and having to!) get drunk on the weekends.

13. The pursuit of happiness is flawed! I examined if pursuing happiness is like being on a never ending hamster wheel to get that next ‘thing’ or for that ‘event’ to happen. Why not be happy now?

14. The two greatest days of my life so far. Once you realize the ‘why’ in your life, you’ll know exactly how I feel!

15. How to tell what someone really cares about! Ever wonder? This is your answer!

16. Why is caring so difficult? The only way to succeed is by caring. If you don’t care…stop what you’re doing!

17. Why you should never hit the snooze button again according to Tiger Woods. This was an extremely popular post and I still get emails about it!

18. What is your definition of success? This took me a long time to realize. Success has nothing to do with money and everything to do with happiness. Unfortunately, I know a lot of wealthy people who are unhappy!

19. Lessons from the happiest 81 year old waitress I’ve ever met! This is special to me for so many different reasons. Again though, what’s the point of everything if you aren’t happy?

20. How to feel like a rock star! Taken straight from my Daily Inspirations – I explore how you can feel incredible!

Relationships: Relationships and dating is fascinating to me. Who you date and who you want to date and who you actually date says a lot about you.

21. Does getting married serve any purpose these days? By far the most controversial post I’ve ever written. Of course, I believe there is a purpose for marriage. It was just some food for thought!

22. Is there really such a thing as soul mates? I used to think so. I don’t know anymore.

23. The definition of a poodle…find out if you’re one! This is something that needed to be said.

24. Why our parents are getting divorced and why you might too! I believe this wholeheartedly! If you’re not truly happy alone, no one will ever be able to make you happy!

Kids: I’m going to be an Uncle and I can’t wait! I can’t wait to see life through his eyes.

25. My first letter to my future nephew or niece. We now know it’s going to be a boy. I made my entire family cry (not at all purposely) from this and I got some really touching emails from you!

Have a happy, healthy and fit New Year and I’ll see you in 2009 ready to go!
